id it something like that, but without changing the distributor and still using the points.
It is a simple transistorized ignition where the transistor switches the main electric load of the ignition coil.
The contact and distributor remain like they are, but the current load in the points is only about 50mA.
This will keep the points (and the timing and setting) in good condition for about 30-50.000 km.
